Ham and Swiss

Something I came up with using what was in the pantry and to use up some Christmas ham.

Categories     Pasta

Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 8

8 oz dry pasta, uncooked (bow ties)
1 Tbsp dried onion flakes
2 c cooked ham, diced
1 can(s) (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
1/2 c milk (may need more)
1 tsp caraway seeds (or to taste-i used a bit more)
6 slice swiss cheese (pre-sliced packaged type)
salt and pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • 1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add onion flakes and pasta; cook according to directions on package. Drain and return to pot.
  • 2. Stir in ham, soup, milk and caraway seed. (Add more milk if needed to get consistency you want). Add salt and pepper, to taste.
  • 3. Spoon half the mixture into a casserole dish that has been coated with non-stick cooking spray. Place 3 slices of cheese over this layer and top with remaining pasta mix. Top with remaining slices of cheese.
  • 4. Cover with foil and bake in pre-heated 325F oven for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 10 minutes.
  • 5. Serve.

This casserole was a disaster! It was too dry and the flavors didn't go well together.

This casserole was a bit too bland for my taste. I think I'll add some more spices next time.

This casserole was a hit with my family! The flavors of the ham, swiss, and rye bread all came together perfectly. It was also really easy to make, which is always a bonus.
