8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature, plus more for pan
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for the pans
1 cup boiling water
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

This cake was a bit too spicy for my taste, but my husband loved it. I'll try making it again with less ginger next time.

This cake was super easy to make and turned out great! I made a few substitutions (used butter instead of oil and added some chopped walnuts), and it still came out perfectly.
