Time 20m

Yield 6 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 3

4 green plantains
2 cups vegetable oil
Salt and freshly ground pepper

Steps:

  • Peel plantains and cut into 1-inch thick rounds.
  • Heat the oil in a small saucepan until hot but not smoking. Drop the plantain rounds into the hot oil 3 or 4 at a time and cook until lightly browned, 2 to 3 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  • Set each fried plantain on a flat side, and using a rolling pin, frying pan, or whatever else you think will work, squash it as flat as you can. It should have a circular shape.
  • Return the flattened plantain sections to the hot oil 3 or 4 at a time and cook until the entire surface is golden brown, about 2 minutes. Remove the plantains from the oil, drain, and season liberally with salt and pepper. Serve hot or at room temperature.

I'm not sure why this recipe has so many positive reviews. I found the rounds to be bland and boring.

This recipe is missing some important ingredients. It doesn't say what kind of oil to use or how much salt to add.

I think this recipe would be better with ripe plantains. Green plantains are too starchy for my taste.

These rounds are way too sweet for my taste. I prefer savory plantains.

I followed the recipe but the rounds didn't come out crispy at all. I'm not sure what I did wrong.

The rounds were a bit too oily for my taste. I think I'll try baking them next time.

I'm not sure about the double-frying process. It seems like a lot of unnecessary work.

These rounds are a bit time-consuming to make, but they're worth the effort. They're so delicious and unique.

These rounds are so easy to make and they're a great way to use up leftover plantains.

I served these rounds with a spicy tomato sauce and a side of black beans, and they were absolutely delicious.

The double-frying process makes these rounds extra crispy, but they're still soft and fluffy on the inside.

I love that this recipe uses green plantains, which makes the rounds more firm and less sweet.
