Aunt Roselles recipe. She is from the deep south where they take their mac & cheese very seriously, so you KNOW this has got to be good !

Time 3h

Number Of Ingredients 9

8 oz elbow macaroni (uncooked)
1 (12 oz) can(s) evaporated milk
1 tsp salt
3 c grated sharp cheddar cheese
2 eggs, beaten
1 stick butter, melted
CRUMB TOPPING:
1/2 c dry bread crumbs
1 Tbsp butter, melted

Steps:

  • 1. Cook the macaroni according to package directions until almost tender.
  • 2. Mix the cooked macaroni with all the remaining ingredients (except 1/2 cup of the cheddar cheese) in a large bowl. Pour mixture into a well greased crock pot.
  • 3. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
  • 4. Cook with the crock pot set on low for 3 hours. DO NOT COOK ANY LONGER THAN 3 HOURS OR YOUR MACARONI WILL BECOME DRY AND STICKY.
  • 5. To make the topping, melt 1 Tablespoon butter and mix in with the dry bread crumbs. When ready to serve, sprinkle topping onto the macaroni and enjoy !!

I was disappointed with this recipe. The mac and cheese was bland and the pasta was overcooked.

This was a good recipe, but I would make a few changes next time. I would use a different type of cheese, and I would add some chopped vegetables.

I've tried a lot of crock pot mac and cheese recipes, and this one is by far the best. The cheese sauce is so smooth and creamy, and the pasta is cooked perfectly. I highly recommend this recipe.

This was a hit with my family! I've made it twice now, and both times it turned out perfectly. It's so easy to make, and the flavor is amazing. I love that I can just throw everything in the crock pot and forget about it until dinner time.
