I had gone to a small wedding reception many years ago, and fell in love with these meatballs. They are easy to make, few ingredients, and quite yummy too!

Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 can(s) any beer, alcohol will be cooked off.
1 bottle 14 oz ketchup
1 c white sugar
2 lb lean ground beef or turkey or prepared plain small meatballs

Steps:

  • 1. Make small meatballs ( 1 1/2"), and cook until browned & done. I prefer to bake them using a broiler pan so the fat drips down into the broiler pan away from the meatballs. Bake for 30 min at 350f for baking or pan cook. Drain well.
  • 2. In a large saucepan, or dutch oven pour in sugar, add ketchup and beer. I like to use some of the beer to swish the excess ketchup out of the bottle. Mix ingredients until the sugar is mostly dissolved. Put over medium heat, add meatballs, and let simmer for 30 minutes.
  • 3. If you want to use a crock-pot, cook your meatballs, or use plain frozen meatballs. Preheat your crock-pot on high. Follow step 2 in the crock, add meatballs and turn down to low if you want them to simmer for more than an hour.
  • 4. The sauce will thicken a bit, and turn a reddish brown. My family swears they taste like sweet and sour meatballs.
  • 5. Final step: ENJOY =)

These meatballs are a great make-ahead meal. They can be cooked ahead of time and then reheated when you're ready to serve.

I love the combination of flavors in these meatballs. The sweetness of the cranberries and the spiciness of the chili powder are a perfect match.

These meatballs are a great way to use up leftover ground turkey. They're also a great way to get kids to eat their vegetables.
