Time 1h10m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

250 g chicken thigh fillets (boneless)
1/2 brown onion
2 garlic cloves
1 carrot
1/2 stick celery
6 sage leaves (chopped)
1 cup yellow split peas
500 ml chicken stock (2 cups)
olive oil
salt (to taste)
pepper (to taste)
2 sheets shortcrust pastry
milk (for basting)

Steps:

  • In a saucepan, cover the yellow peas with the stock, bring to the boil then simmer for 30 minutes (check now and then, to make sure it does not run out of stock and burn and top if necessary).
  • Dice the chicken, onion, garlic, carrot and celery.
  • Splash olive oil into a frying pan and bring up to the heat and toss in the chicken, vegetables, sage and the yellow peas (drained of excess fluid) and then season with salt and pepper and cook for 5 to 8 minutes and then allow to cool.
  • Line loaf tin with pastry, overlapping slightly and then fill with the chicken mix and then fold pastry in and brush with milk.
  • Score the second sheet of pastry in a diamond shape and place on top as the lid.
  • Brush with milk and season with salt.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 190C for 20 minutes.

Chicken and yellow pea pie? That's an interesting combination. I'll have to give it a try.

I've made this pie several times and it's always a hit. My family loves the creamy filling and the flaky crust.

I'm thinking of making this pie for my next dinner party. Do you think it would be better to use chicken breasts or thighs?

Just made this pie and it's delicious! The chicken is so tender and the yellow peas add a great flavor. The crust is also perfect.

This pie was a disappointment. The crust was soggy and the filling was bland. I would not recommend this recipe.

The filling was flavorful and the crust was flaky, but I found the chicken to be a bit dry.

This pie was easy to make and turned out great. The chicken and yellow peas were a delicious combination, and the crust was perfect. I'll definitely be adding this to my regular rotation of recipes.

I'm not a big fan of yellow peas, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this pie. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the crust was flaky and golden brown. I'll definitely be making this again!

This pie was a hit! The chicken was tender and juicy, and the yellow peas added a nice pop of flavor. I also loved the flaky crust. I will definitely be making this again.
