Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts image

My mother used to make these and keep them warm on a warming tray (the kind you plug into the wall) for appetizers. These are really easy and my dh loved these simple appetizers -- plus they can be considered emergency appetizers too as it's easy to have the three ingredients (bacon, a can of water chestnuts and brown sugar) needed to make these on hand all the time.

Yield 24 appetizers

Number Of Ingredients 3

24 water chestnuts (1 small can, drained)
2 tablespoons brown sugar
8 pieces bacon, cut into thirds (24 pieces of bacon)

Steps:

  • Combine water chestnuts with sugar.
  • Wrap bacon piece around water chestnuts attaching with a toothpick; repeat for all remaining bacon and water chestnuts. ***You can do this hours ahead and refrigerated.

I followed the recipe but the water chestnuts were still a bit tough. Maybe I cooked them for too long?

These were a bit bland. I think I would add some more seasoning next time.

I thought these were just okay. The bacon was a little too crispy for my taste.

I added a little bit of brown sugar to the bacon and they were amazing! They were the perfect combination of sweet and savory.

I used gluten-free bacon and tamari instead of soy sauce, and they turned out great! This is a great recipe for people with dietary restrictions.

I've made these several times now, and they are always a crowd-pleaser. The combination of salty bacon and sweet water chestnuts is irresistible.
