FRIED RAVIOLI

Fried Ravioli image

Fried ravioli, a popular appetizer in St. Louis, Missouri, is breaded and deep-fried pasta. If frying pasta sounds strange to you, keep an open mind: crispy pasta shell, soft cheese filling and ample marinara sauce for dipping; what's not to like?

Time 30m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

Olive oil, for frying
1 cup buttermilk
2 cups Italian-style bread crumbs
1 box store-bought cheese ravioli (about 24 ravioli)
1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan
1 jar store bought marinara sauce, heated, for dipping

Steps:

  • Pour enough olive oil into a large frying pan to reach a depth of 2 inches. Heat the oil over medium heat until a deep-fry thermometer registers 325 degrees F.
  • While the oil is heating, put the buttermilk and the bread crumbs in separate shallow bowls. Working in batches, dip ravioli in buttermilk to coat completely. Allow the excess buttermilk to drip back into the bowl. Dredge ravioli in the bread crumbs. Place the ravioli on a baking sheet, and continue with the remaining ravioli.
  • When the oil is hot, fry the ravioli in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fried ravioli to paper towels to drain.
  • Sprinkle the fried ravioli with Parmesan and serve with a bowl of warmed marinara sauce for dipping.

Tips:

  • Use fresh wonton wrappers for the best results. If you can't find them, you can use egg roll wrappers, but they will be a little thicker.
  • Be careful not to overfill the wonton wrappers. Otherwise, they will be difficult to seal and may fall apart during cooking.
  • To make sure the wontons are cooked through, fry them until they are golden brown and crispy. You can also bake them in the oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes.
  • Serve the ravioli pops with your favorite dipping sauce. Marinara sauce, Alfredo sauce, or pesto are all great options.

Conclusion:

Ravioli appetizer pops are a quick and easy way to make a delicious and impressive appetizer. They are perfect for parties or potlucks. With a variety of fillings and dipping sauces to choose from, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
