SIMPLE BARBECUE SAUCE

Simple Barbecue Sauce image

Smoked paprika is the secret weapon in this simple barbecue sauce, which goes beautifully with pork and chicken. If you're painting the sauce onto cooking meat, thin it out with water to about a one-to-one ratio, which will keep the sugars from burning too quickly over the fire. Serve the full-strength stuff alongside the finished meat.

Tips:

  • Use quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better the sauce will be. Use fresh vegetables, herbs, and spices, and choose a good quality tomato sauce or ketchup as your base.
  • Brown the meat: Browning the meat adds depth of flavor to the sauce. If you're using ground beef, cook it over medium-high heat until it's browned all over. If you're using pulled pork or chicken, cook it until it's tender and slightly charred.
  • Simmer the sauce: Simmering the sauce allows the flavors to meld together and develop. Bring the sauce to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for at least 30 minutes, or up to an hour.
  • Taste and adjust the seasonings: Taste the sauce as it simmers and adjust the seasonings as needed. Add more salt, pepper, or chili powder to taste.
  • Use the sauce on your favorite foods: Barbecue sauce is great on grilled meats, chicken, fish, and vegetables. It can also be used as a dipping sauce for fries, onion rings, or chicken nuggets.

Conclusion:

Making your own barbecue sauce is easy and rewarding. With a few simple ingredients and a little time, you can create a delicious sauce that's perfect for your next cookout. So next time you're firing up the grill, give one of these recipes a try. You won't be disappointed!
