Making pizza dough from scratch is no doubt a labor of love-but that doesn't mean it can't be fast and easy too. Time 40m

Yield Makes 1 pound

Number Of Ingredients 6

2/3 cup warm water (110°F)
1/4 ounce active dry yeast (not rapid rise; 2 1/4 teaspoons)
1 teaspoon sugar
1 3/4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
1 1/4 teaspoons kosher salt
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for brushing

Steps:

  • Combine water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl; let stand until foamy, about 5 minutes. Add flour, salt, and oil, and stir until a ragged dough forms. Transfer to a lightly floured work surface.
  • Knead with floured hands until dough is smooth, elastic, and tacky but no longer sticky, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a bowl brushed with oil, turning dough to evenly coat. Cover with plastic wrap and let stand in a warm, draft-free place until doubled in volume, 30 to 45 minutes.

Tips:

  • Always use fresh, high-quality ingredients for the best results.
  • Make sure your water is warm, but not hot, before adding the yeast. Hot water will kill the yeast and prevent it from rising.
  • If you don't have a stand mixer, you can knead the dough by hand. Just make sure to knead it for at least 10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place until it has doubled in size. This will usually take about an hour.
  • When rolling out the dough, use a light touch and don't overwork it. The dough should be about 1/4-inch thick.
  • Before adding the toppings, brush the dough with olive oil. This will help to prevent the dough from getting dry and crispy.
  • Bake the pizza in a preheated oven at a high temperature. This will help to create a crispy crust.
  • Don't overload the pizza with toppings. Too many toppings will make the pizza soggy.
  • Let the pizza cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Conclusion:

Making pizza dough from scratch is a fun and rewarding experience. With a little practice, you'll be able to make delicious pizza dough that will impress your friends and family. So what are you waiting for? Give it a try today!
