POOR MAN'S LOBSTER

This way of preparing Halibut makes it taste just like lobster, especially when dipped in melted butter. The texture is smooth and tender.

Provided by Emily Walker

Categories     Dinner     Main Course

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup salt
1 pound halibut
1/2 cup butter ((sweet cream works great))
1 lemon

Steps:

  • In a medium to large pot bring 2 quarts of water, sugar, and salt to a boil.
  • Cut halibut into 2-3 large pieces (so it cooks faster) and add to water.
  • Boil for about 10 minutes or until halibut is nice and flaky.
  • In the meantime, melt butter in a pot, but do not boil.
  • Remove halibut from water, squeeze a little fresh lemon on it and serve with melted butter (I like to completely submerge my halibut in the melted butter, much like you would do with lobster).

POOR MANS LOBSTER

This was a recipe that was handed down through my family.

Provided by patricia taylor

Categories     Fish

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 lb haddock
2 qt water, boiling
2 medium onions, quartered
2 stick celery, cut in big slices
1/4 c white vinegar
1 tsp old bay seasoning
1 tsp salt

Steps:

  • 1. Cut fish into squares. Put all ingredients except fish in pot and bring to a boil.
  • 2. After water comes to a boil, drop haddock into water. After water comes to a boil again, cook 12 minutes and lift out. Pour melted butter over and serve.

Tips:

  • Choose the freshest haddock you can find. Fresh haddock will have a mild, sweet flavor and a firm, flaky texture. Avoid haddock that is discolored or has an off odor.
  • Use a large skillet or griddle to cook the haddock. This will help to prevent the fish from sticking and will ensure that it cooks evenly.
  • Don't overcrowd the skillet or griddle. If you do, the haddock will not cook evenly and may become mushy.
  • Cook the haddock over medium heat. This will help to prevent the fish from overcooking and becoming dry.
  • Season the haddock with salt and pepper before cooking. You can also add other seasonings, such as garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika.
  • Serve the haddock immediately with melted butter, lemon wedges, and your favorite sides.

Conclusion:

Poor man's lobster haddock is a delicious and affordable seafood dish that can be easily prepared at home. By following the tips above, you can create a flavorful and satisfying meal that your family and friends will love.
