CLOTHES PIN COOKIES

Clothes Pin Cookies image

Puff pastry cookies wrapped on clothes pins, baked and then filled. 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch dowels cut 4 inches long work well. Clothes pins may spring open in the oven and break the pastry. These are best if baked on insulated cookie sheets.

Yield 18

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 pound butter, softened
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons white sugar
2 egg yolks
1 ¼ cups ice water
1 cup milk
½ cup all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups shortening
8 cups confectioners' sugar
1 (7 ounce) jar marshmallow creme
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Mix 1/4 pound of the butter with 3 cups of flour, 2 tablespoons white sugar, egg yolks, and water. (Done like making pie dough with a pastry blender.)
  • Chill for 1 hour then roll out like pie dough on a floured pastry sheet. Spread another 1/4 pound of the butter over dough. Fold dough together and refrigerate 1 hour. Repeat this procedure until all of the butter is used.
  • Cut dough into fourths. Wrap each quarter in plastic wrap. Chill.
  • Take out one quarter at a time and allow to stand at room temperature long enough that it softens enough that the dough can be rolled.
  • Roll dough out on floured pastry sheet/ board. Cut dough into 1/2 inch wide X 4-5 inch long strips. Wrap around clothes pins or dowel pins pinching ends.
  • Bake at 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) for 12-15 minutes until lightly browned. Slide off sticks while still very warm and then cool completely.
  • To Make Filling: In a saucepan over medium heat, cook 1 cup milk and 1/2 cup flour until thick stirring constantly. Let cool.
  • Cream together shortening, confectioners' sugar, marshmallow cream, and vanilla. Add cooked mixture to creamed mixture and beat till fluffy. Fill cooled pastry curls with filling.

CLOTHES PIN COOKIES

Clothes pin Cookies image

What a unique way of making cookies..yes, you use a wooden clothes pin! These little delicate cookies can be filled with filling of choice, and are perfect for a woman's luncheon/showers or Tea party. I loved how fun these were to do..kids would enjoy this as well..they would get a kick out of watching cookies bake in an oven on...

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 20

wooden round clothes pins...i got a package of 50...
2 stick margarine, room temp
1/2 c cold water
1 Tbsp crisco
1/2 Tbsp sugar, granulated
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp butter flavoring
2 1/4 c flour
BUTTER CREAM FILLING FOR COOKIES
1/4 c salted butter, room temp
1/4 c unsalted butter, room temp
1/2 c shortening
1/2 tsp butter flavoring
1/2 Tbsp vanilla extract
2 c confectioner's sugar
2-3 Tbsp milk
OTHER CHOICES FOR FILLING COOKIES
jam, any flavor
whipping cream
mousse..but serve right away if you use this..it may soften the dough to much if sets to long

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 375..if using a dark cookie sheet bake at 370. Do not grease cookie sheets. Prepare your clothes pins having them handy once you roll out the dough and cut it to place on the pins.
  • 2. Place margarine, crisco, egg yolk, butter flavoring and flour into a food processor. Pulse until well combined. Slowly add water until blended well and dough forms a ball in the bowl. Remove dough from processor.
  • 3. **I don't have a food processor so I cut in the butter and shortening into the flour mixture with a butter knife, just as I do for my pie crust..then I used a large serving fork to mix when adding the water to form a ball.
  • 4. Once dough is combined well and you have made it into a ball, flatten it some and then cut into quarters...wrapping them each and placing them in the freezer for about 15-20 minutes. Now remove from freezer and place in fridge...using ONE quarter at a time while leaving the rest in the fridge..take a floured pie crust mat, or a floured area on your counter top..Flour it well, the dough wants to stick, so be careful as you roll it out with a rolling pin. Roll your dough out into a rectangle if possible making it about 1/8 inch thick..and then cut your strips about 3/4 inch wide by 4 inches long...now take your clothes pin and wrap the dough around the clothespin..as shown in picture here.
  • 5. Place seam side down on the cookie sheet and bake for 9-10 minutes, watching carefully. YOu want the bottom of the cookie to be golden.
  • 6. Remove from cookie sheet and CAREFULLY remove the spiral cookie from the clothes pin..it may seem delicate and difficult at first, but it gets easier as you go along. The clothes pins are HOT..so please be careful. Allow the cookies to cool completely before filling with buttercream!!
  • 7. BUTTERCREAM FROSTING: Cream butter, shortening, vanilla extract, and butter flavoring with a hand mixer until light and fluffy. Now add confectioners sugar and adding 1 T. of milk at a time until buttercream is light and ready to fill cookies. At this point use your judgement as to whether or not you need more milk or more confectioners sugar...
  • 8. Once cookies are completely cooled..take a decorator's bag or plastic bag and fill with butter cream frosting and insert into end of cookie spiral and fill. Once filled sprinkle with confectioners sugar.
  • 9. You can use your own ideas as far as filling them with some of the suggestions I gave above...I did do the buttercream and used a small amount of food coloring to make pink, greeen, yellow and then also add seedless raspberry jam for some. Have fun with this..but remember these are very delicate, so don't use a heavy filling..

IRISH PIN OATS

Irish Pin Oats image

A hearty, healthy way to get your oatmeal. Has a consistency similar to brown rice. Pinhead oats can usually be found in the flour section of your grocery. I usually start the recipe while I am making coffee, and then let it simmer while I shower and get ready for work. By the time I am done with that, I have a nice hot, hearty breakfast waiting for me.

PARTY PIN WHEELS

Party Pin Wheels image

When I worked at the hospital a little Filipino girl named ALVIE used to bring these to our pot lucks. Everybody loved them--and her.

Provided by Darlene Summers

Categories     < 15 Mins

Time 15m

Yield 32 slices, 32 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 (8 ounce) jar Hidden Valley® Original Ranch® Dressing
2 green onions, minced
4 (12 inch) flour tortillas
1/2 cup diced sweet red pepper
1/2 cup diced celery
1 (2 1/4 ounce) can sliced black olives, drained
1 (10 ounce) package wafer sliced ham (diced or minced fine)

Steps:

  • MIX first 3 ingredients.
  • Spread on tortillas.
  • Sprinkle on remaining ingredients.
  • Then roll and wrap tightly.
  • Chill 2 hours.
  • Cut off roll ends.
  • Then cut rolls into 1 inch slices.
  • Ready to eat.
  • Bet you can't make them without snitching some.
  • I also like these made as they are with little baby dill pickles added in the middle and then rolled and chilled.

Tips:

  • Mise en place: Before you start cooking, make sure you have all your ingredients and equipment ready. This will help you stay organized and prevent any scrambling later on.
  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients: The better the ingredients, the better your dish will taste. Whenever possible, use fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment: Recipes are a great starting point, but don't be afraid to experiment and make changes to suit your own taste. Add a little more spice, or try a different type of cheese. Cooking should be fun, so don't be afraid to get creative.
  • Pay attention to cooking times: Overcooking can ruin a dish, so it's important to pay attention to the cooking times in the recipes. If you're not sure if something is done, it's always better to err on the side of caution and cook it for a little less time.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When cooking meat or vegetables, don't overcrowd the pan. This will prevent them from cooking evenly and will result in soggy, undercooked food.
  • Use a sharp knife: A sharp knife is essential for good cooking. It will make it easier to chop, dice, and slice your ingredients, and it will also help to prevent accidents.

Conclusion:

Cooking is a skill that takes time and practice to master. But with a little patience and effort, anyone can learn to cook delicious, healthy meals. So don't be afraid to experiment and have fun in the kitchen. The more you cook, the better you'll become.
