Tips:

  • Choose ripe peaches: Using ripe peaches will ensure that your whirligigs are sweet and juicy. Look for peaches that are slightly soft to the touch and have a deep yellow or orange color.
  • Peel the peaches carefully: To avoid tearing the peach skin, use a sharp paring knife to make a shallow cut around the peach's equator. Then, gently pull the skin away from the flesh.
  • Use a sharp knife to slice the peaches: This will help you get clean, even slices that will cook evenly.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the peaches: If you overcrowd the pan, the peaches will steam instead of sautéing, and they won't get as caramelized.
  • Cook the peaches until they are slightly caramelized: This will give them a delicious flavor and a slightly chewy texture.
  • Let the whirligigs cool completely before serving: This will help them set and hold their shape.

Conclusion:

Peach whirligigs are a delicious and easy-to-make summer dessert. They're perfect for potlucks, picnics, or any other gathering. With their sweet and juicy peaches, buttery crust, and cinnamon sugar filling, they're sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them. So next time you have a few ripe peaches on hand, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
