PARMESAN SAGE SCONES

I love scones, and these are no exception. Just five basic ingredients make these so easy and yummy! Recipe: Tasteofhome.com

Categories     Savory Breads

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 1/4 c bisquick baking mix
1/4 c grated parmesan cheese
1 3/4 tsp minced fresh sage or 1 tsp. dried sage
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 c plus 1 tbsp. half-and-half cream, divided

Steps:

  • 1. In a large bowl, combine the biscuit mix, cheese, minced sage, and pepper. Stir in 1/2 cup cream.
  • 2. Turn onto a floured surface; knead 5 times.
  • 3. Transfer dough to a baking sheet coated with cooking spray. Pat into a 6-in. circle. Cut into eight wedges, but do not separate. Brush remaining cream over dough.
  • 4. Bake in a preheated 375-degree oven for 10-15 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Serve warm.
  • 5. NOTE: If dough is too dry and falls apart, add a little more half-n-half, 1/4 tsp. at a time.

Tips:

  • Using cold butter is essential for light and flaky scones. Keep the butter chilled until you're ready to use it, and work it into the flour mixture quickly. Avoid overworking the dough, as this will make the scones tough.
  • Don't overmix the dough. Overmixing will make the scones tough and dense. Mix the dough just until it comes together, then stop.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different flavors. Parmesan and sage are a classic combination, but you can also try adding other herbs, spices, or cheeses to the dough. For a sweeter scone, add a tablespoon or two of sugar to the dough.
  • If you don't have a pastry cutter, you can use two knives to cut the butter into the flour mixture. Just be sure to work quickly so that the butter doesn't melt.
  • If you're short on time, you can make the scones ahead of time and freeze them. To freeze the scones, bake them according to the recipe instructions, then let them cool completely. Wrap the scones tightly in plastic wrap and place them in a freezer bag. To reheat the scones, thaw them overnight in the refrigerator or at room temperature for about an hour, then bake them in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes, or until they're warmed through.

Conclusion:

Parmesan sage scones are a delicious and versatile treat that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They're easy to make and can be customized to your liking. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy snack or meal, give these scones a try. You won't be disappointed!
