OVEN FRITES

Serve frites plain or accompanied by ketchup, mayonnaise or malt vinegar. Or, for a twist, try adding fresh chopped chervil to Dijon mustard.

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 medium baking potatoes
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Olive-oil cooking spray

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 400 degrees. Place a heavy-duty baking sheet in the oven. Scrub and rinse potatoes well, and then cut them lengthwise into 1/2-inch-wide batons. Place potato batons in a medium bowl, and toss them with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  • When baking sheet is hot, about 15 minutes, remove from oven, and spray with olive-oil cooking spray. Place prepared potatoes on baking sheet in a single layer. Return to oven, and bake until potatoes are golden on the bottom, about 30 minutes. Turn potatoes over, and continue cooking until golden all over, another 15 minutes. Serve immediately.

Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Russet potatoes are the best choice for oven fries. They have a high starch content, which makes them crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
  • Cut the potatoes evenly: This will help them cook evenly.
  • Soak the potatoes in cold water for 30 minutes before cooking: This will help remove excess starch and make the fries crispier.
  • Dry the potatoes thoroughly before cooking: This will help them crisp up.
  • Toss the potatoes with oil, salt, and pepper before cooking: This will help them brown and flavor them.
  • Cook the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet: This will help them cook evenly.
  • Flip the fries halfway through cooking: This will help them brown evenly.
  • Serve the fries immediately: They are best when served hot and crispy.

Conclusion:

Oven fries are a delicious and easy-to-make side dish. They are perfect for any occasion, from a casual weeknight meal to a special holiday dinner. With a few simple tips, you can make oven fries that are crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and full of flavor. So next time you are looking for a side dish that is sure to please everyone, give oven fries a try.
