BAKED BBQ CHICKEN DRUMSTICKS

Baked BBQ Chicken Drumsticks image

These baked barbeque chicken drumsticks are ready in less than 50 minutes and taste sweet, tangy, and juicy. I used Baby Ray's® barbeque sauce for ease and convenience but feel free to use homemade barbeque sauce.

OVEN BARBECUE DRUMS

Oven Barbecue Drums image

I found this recipe on about.com as a crock pot dish. I modified it for the oven. It's simple enough that my 14 yo son made it by himself.

Provided by Terri Newell

Categories     Chicken Thigh & Leg

Time 1h10m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 lbs chicken drumsticks
1 1/4 cups barbecue sauce
2 tablespoons chili sauce
1/4 cup honey
3 teaspoons minced garlic
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 dash pepper

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350.
  • Place chicken in 13x9 pan. You can leave the skin on or remove it -- it's good either way.
  • Bake 30 minutes.
  • Drain off grease.
  • Mix remaining ingredients and pour over chicken.
  • Bake 30 minutes longer or until cooked through.
  • Note -- I sometimes add more chili sauce to vamp up the flavor. And if you run out of garlic, as I did, you can substitute 1 tsp garlic salt.

Tips:

  • Prep the chicken: Pat the chicken drumsticks dry with paper towels before seasoning and cooking. This will help the spices adhere to the chicken and create a crispy skin.
  • Generously season the chicken: Use a flavorful blend of spices, such as paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and chili powder, to give the chicken a bold taste.
  • Marinate the chicken: Marinating the chicken in a mixture of olive oil, spices, and herbs for at least 30 minutes will help to infuse the chicken with flavor and make it extra tender.
  • Cook the chicken over indirect heat: This will help to prevent the chicken from drying out and will allow it to cook evenly.
  • Baste the chicken with sauce: Basting the chicken with a flavorful sauce during the last 10 minutes of cooking will help to keep it moist and add extra flavor.

Conclusion:

Oven-barbecued chicken drumsticks are an easy and delicious meal that can be enjoyed by the whole family. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a mouthwatering dish that will be sure to impress your taste buds. Serve the chicken drumsticks with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, green beans, or coleslaw.
