ORANGE WHITE CHOCOLATE CHIP PANCAKES

Orange White Chocolate Chip Pancakes image

I was feeling a little adventurous this morning and decided to shake up the basic pancake recipe. The orange flavor is noticeable, but subtle, and melds nicely with the white chocolate chips. They were a huge hit.

Categories     Oranges

Time 20m

Yield 16 pancakes, 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 1/2 cups flour
3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon white sugar
3/4 cup milk
3/4 cup orange juice
1 orange, zest of
1 egg
3 tablespoons of melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
white chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Mix your dry ingredients together in a large bowl.
  • In a separate bowl, mix wet ingredients together, including the orange zest but NOT the butter.
  • Pour your wet ingredients into the large bowl with the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Add the melted butter and stir it in!
  • Preheat your griddle/pan over medium heat. When it is nice and toasty, rub a little butter (or non-stick cooking spray) across the surface. It should sizzle and bubble just a little, but should not be smoking.
  • Pour batter onto your pan using a 1/4 cup of the batter for each pancake. When you get the beginnings of the tell-tale bubbles, sprinkle some white chocolate chips onto the wet pancake. However many you use is up to you. A little does go a long way, since they will melt and spread out a little.
  • When the bubbles are really talking to you, flip the pancake and cook until the other side is golden brown. Continue with the remaining batter.
  • Enjoy with the toppings of your choice.

Tips for Making Orange Chocolate Chip Pancakes

  • To achieve light and fluffy pancakes, ensure that the buttermilk is at room temperature before mixing the batter. This allows the baking soda to react with the acid in the buttermilk, creating bubbles that will give the pancakes their signature rise.
  • For a more intense orange flavor, zest an additional orange and add it to the batter. Alternatively, you can use a combination of orange zest and orange juice for a brighter citrus taste.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can result in tough, dense pancakes. Mix the batter just until the ingredients are combined. Lumps are okay.
  • Use a hot, lightly greased griddle or frying pan. This will help the pancakes cook evenly and prevent them from sticking.
  • Cook the pancakes over medium heat. If the heat is too high, the pancakes will brown too quickly and may burn on the outside while remaining uncooked on the inside.
  • Flip the pancakes only once. Flipping them too often can make them tough.
  • Serve the pancakes immediately with your favorite toppings, such as butter, maple syrup, fruit, or whipped cream.

Conclusion

These orange chocolate chip pancakes are a delicious and easy-to-make breakfast treat. With their bright citrus flavor and indulgent chocolate chips, they're sure to be a hit with the whole family. So next time you're looking for a special breakfast or brunch recipe, give these pancakes a try. You won't be disappointed!
