1 1/2 cups chopped apples
1/3 cup packed brown sugar

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup finely chopped nuts (I use walnuts)
1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
3 eggs
3 cups flour (all purpose or whole wheat)
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

  • Bake at 325°F for 1 hour, until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 20 minutes, then turnout onto a serving plate and cool completely.
  • To prepare glaze: Mix all ingredients until smooth, then drizzle over cooled coffee cake.

Tips:

  • Measure your ingredients accurately. This is especially important for baking, as even small variations in measurements can affect the outcome of your cake.
  • Use fresh, high-quality ingredients. This will help ensure that your cake has the best flavor and texture.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can develop the gluten in the flour, which can make the cake tough.
  • Bake the cake at the correct temperature and for the correct amount of time. Check the recipe carefully and use a timer to ensure that the cake is not over- or under-baked.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting it. This will help prevent the frosting from melting.

Old-fashioned coffee cake is a classic recipe that is easy to make and always a hit with family and friends.
