1 Tbsp pure vanilla extract
1/8 tsp table salt
1/2 cup (2 oz, 56g) Dutch process cocoa powder
1 cup (8 oz, 224g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
4 cups (16 oz, 448g) confectioner's sugar

Yield 2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 1/2 cups sugar (I use Splenda Blend)
1/4 cup cocoa
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • In a heavy medium saucepan, combine the sugar, cocoa, and salt, and stir or whisk to mix everything well.
  • Add the butter and place over medium heat, stirring to melt the butter and mix everything together into a smooth, brown sauce.

  • When the frosting begins to thicken, remove it from the heat and stir in the vanilla and set it aside to cool for about 20 minutes.
  • Beat the frosting just until it thickens and looks shiny, and then spread it over the cake or the layers you want to ice.

CHOCOLATE GLAZE (THAT HARDENS WHEN COOL)

Chocolate Glaze (That Hardens when Cool) image

ISO: Chocolate Glaze that dries hard using cocoa and without... Saw this and found the answer. This would be good now with Valentine's Day is near. Try using it like those chocolate dips they have in ice cream shops; it hardens into a shell on the ice cream. Or use it to top your favorite cookie, cupcake, cheesecake, brownie, etc..

Yield Makes about 3 cups

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
3 tablespoons unsweetened Dutch-process cocoa powder
Pinch of salt
5 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
7 ounces bittersweet chocolate, melted
2/3 cup sour cream

Steps:

  • Sift sugar, cocoa powder, and salt into a medium bowl; set aside.
  • Put butter and cream cheese into the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Mix on medium-high until fluffy. Reduce speed to low. Gradually add sugar mixture. Mix in chocolate and sour cream. Use immediately.

Tips:

  • For the best results, use unsweetened chocolate that has a cocoa content of at least 70%. This will give the icing a rich, chocolatey flavor.
  • Make sure that the butter is softened before you begin making the icing. This will help it to cream together with the sugar more easily.
  • If you want a thicker icing, you can add more powdered sugar. If you want a thinner icing, you can add more milk.
  • You can flavor the icing with vanilla extract, almond extract, or coffee extract. You can also add chopped nuts, dried fruit, or sprinkles.
  • The icing can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Conclusion:

This old-fashioned chocolate icing is a delicious and versatile frosting that can be used on cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and brownies. It is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. Give it a try today!
