OLD FASHIONED FRESH APPLE CAKE

Provided by ddav0962

Categories     Dessert

Time 1h20m

Yield 1 cake, 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 14

3 cups apples, granny smith, peeled, cored and grated
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
3 eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 1/2 cups flour
3 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
glaze
1 1/2 cups confectioners sugar, sifted
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 tablespoons water

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine grated apples, sugars and vegetable oil in a large bowl. Add the eggs, vanilla and cinnamon. Gradually add the flour mixed with the baking powder and salt, mixing well to combine. Pour into a greased bundt pan and bake 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then invert onto a cooling rack.
  • Combine the glaze ingredients in a small bowl and drizzle over the top of the cake before serving.

Tips:

  • Use Granny Smith apples. They hold their shape well and provide a tart flavor that pairs perfectly with the sweet cake batter.
  • Peel and slice the apples thinly. This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from becoming too mushy.
  • Coat the apples in flour before adding them to the batter. This will help them distribute evenly throughout the cake and prevent them from sinking to the bottom.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can result in a tough, dense cake. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the cake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. This usually takes about 45-50 minutes.
  • Let the cake cool completely before serving. This will give the flavors time to develop and the cake time to set.

Conclusion:

Old-fashioned apple dapple cake is a classic for a reason. It's simple to make, yet always a crowd-pleaser. With its moist, tender crumb, sweet-tart apples, and crunchy topping, it's the perfect cake for any occasion. So next time you're looking for a delicious and easy-to-make dessert, give this recipe a try. You won't be disappointed!
