HAM AND CHEESE PATTIES

Ham and Cheese Patties image

I love Recipe #137575 and I really love ham and cheese sandwiches, so I thought why not try to combine the two. This is what I came up with. Thank you Chef Dari Donovan for inspiring me. Submitted on June 13th, 2006.

Time 25m

Yield 4 patties

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 cups cooked ham, shredded and chopped fine
1/3 cup finely chopped white onion
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1 large egg, slightly beaten
1/4 cup self-rising flour
1/4 cup cornmeal (I like to use yellow)
1/8 cup mayonnaise
oil (for frying)

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients except oil, in a medium sized bowl (mixture will be stiff).
  • Heat oil over medium heat, in a non-stick skillet large enough to fry all patties at one time (may do 2 patties at a time to turn more easily).
  • While oil is heating, form mixture into 4 patties.
  • Fry until golden brown, about 6 minutes on each side.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

GRILLED HAM BURGERS

Grilled Ham Burgers image

My family loves my ham loaf, so I decided to make the ham loaf mixture into patties and grill them-it was an instant hit. Adding the arugula gives these burgers a peppery bite and honey mustard dressing adds just the right sweet and sour flavor. -Susan Bickta, Kutztown, Pennsylvania

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality ground ham: Look for ham that is finely ground and has a consistent texture. This will help ensure that your patties are evenly cooked and have a tender texture.
  • Add bread crumbs to the mixture: Bread crumbs help to absorb moisture and bind the ingredients together, resulting in a patty that is less likely to fall apart during cooking.
  • Season the patties well: Don't be afraid to add plenty of seasonings to your patties, such as salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. This will help to enhance the flavor of the ham.
  • Cook the patties over medium heat: Cooking the patties over medium heat will help to ensure that they are cooked evenly throughout without burning the outside.
  • Flip the patties only once: Resist the urge to flip the patties multiple times during cooking. Flipping them too often can make them dry and crumbly.

Conclusion:

Drier's ham patties are a versatile and delicious dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They are easy to make and can be tailored to your own personal preferences. With just a few simple tips, you can create perfect ham patties that are sure to be a hit with your family and friends.
