NO-COOK BARBECUE SAUCE

No-Cook Barbecue Sauce image

Though I'm all for high- quality prepared sauces and such to use as shortcuts, I've never found a bottled vegan barbecue sauce I really like. But this nearly instant sauce is so easy that I've ended the search. It's especially good with tofu, tempeh, and seitan.

Yield Makes about 1 1/2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 1/4 cups tomato sauce
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 tablespoon molasses (optional)
1 to 2 tablespoons reduced-sodium natural soy sauce, or to taste
1 teaspoon sweet or smoked paprika
1 to 2 teaspoons good-quality chili powder, or to taste
1 teaspoon dried oregano or basil

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix well. If time allows, cover and let stand at room temperature for an hour or so to allow the flavors to combine more fully. If you need to use it right away, go ahead-it will still be quite good.

POSSUM'S NO-COOK BBQ SAUCE

Possum's No-Cook BBQ Sauce image

Sweet and tangy, great on ribs, steaks, chicken, you name it! The only time it takes to make this is the time to find the ingredients and mix them into a bowl. This recipe was in its original form one of Emeril's barbecue sauces as seen on his TV show. It's since been tweaked, perhaps not to perfection, but to my & my family's taste.

This is one of the easiest and tastiest BBQ sauce I have ever made. Great variations below, I really like the liquid smoke flavor added. Posting so I don't loose. From Eating Consciously blog.

Categories     Sauces

Time 5m

Yield 3 cups

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
1/2 cup agave nectar (or honey)
1/4 cup molasses
1/2 teaspoon dried chipotle powder
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
salt and pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Mix ingredients in a bowl.
  • For a spicier sauce - add 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper.
  • For a less spicy sauce - omit the chipotle.
  • For a sweeter sauce - use ketchup instead of tomato sauce.
  • For a less sweet sauce - use only 1/4 cup agave nectar.
  • For a smoky sauce - add a few drops of liquid smoke.
  • For a variation - add some minced garlic, freshly grated ginger, or lime juice.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ketchup: Opt for a brand that uses ripe tomatoes and minimal added sugar.
  • Choose the right vinegar: Apple cider vinegar adds a classic tang, while red wine vinegar provides a more robust flavor.
  • Use dark brown sugar: It has a richer molasses flavor than light brown sugar.
  • Add spices to taste: Common additions include garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and chili powder.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment: Try adding unique ingredients like honey, mustard, or chipotle peppers.
  • Let the sauce rest: This allows the flavors to meld together and mature.

Conclusion:

With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can make a delicious and versatile no-cook BBQ sauce that's perfect for grilling, roasting, or dipping. Experiment with different ingredients and flavors to create a sauce that suits your taste. Whether you prefer a classic tangy BBQ sauce or something with a bit more heat, this recipe is a great place to start. So, fire up the grill and get ready to enjoy your homemade BBQ sauce!
