MUELLER'S QUICK "NO BOIL" CHEESY LASAGNA

Mueller's Quick

This recipe came from the back of a Mueller's noodles box. I love it because it is both delicious and quick! No need to boil the lasagne noodles. Just layer the lasagne and pop it in the oven! You can save even more time by using prepared sauce (see tip at bottom of recipe). This lasagne can be made with or without meat. You can also add more vegetables to boost the healthy quotient!

Time 1h20m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 14

1/2 lb lean ground beef (optional) or 1/2 lb turkey sausage, with casing removed (optional)
1 large onion, diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
2 cups sliced mushrooms (optional)
1 cup tomato juice or 1 cup water
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil or 1 teaspoon dried basil
1 (15 ounce) container ricotta cheese
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
8 ounces mueller's lasagna noodles, uncooked (9-10 noodles)
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided (I always use closer to 4 cups)
1 cup grated parmesan cheese, divided

Steps:

  • In large skillet over medium-high heat cook meat, stirring, until lightly browned.
  • Add onion and garlic; cook 3 minutes.
  • Stir in tomato sauce, mushrooms, tomato juice and basil.
  • Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, combine ricotta, egg, salt and pepper.
  • Spoon 1-1/2 cups sauce into 13x9x2" baking dish.
  • Top with half the uncooked lasagne, all the ricotta mixture, 1 cup mozzarella, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, 1-1/2 cups sauce, then remaining lasagne.
  • Top with remaining sauce, mozzarella and Parmesan.
  • Cover tightly with foil.
  • Bake in 350 degree oven for 45 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake 15 minutes longer or until lightly browned.
  • Let stand 15 minutes before serving.
  • TO USE PREPARED SAUCE: In steps 2 and 3, omit onion, garlic, tomato sauce and basil. Add 1 (30 ounces) jar prepared spaghetti sauce with the mushrooms and tomato juice to browned meat. Complete as directed.

LASAGNA (CLASSIC MUELLER'S RECIPE)

Lasagna (Classic Mueller's Recipe) image

This is the basic recipe from Mueller's box with a couple substitutions to suit my taste and laziness. Makes one deep 13x9 pan. If you make ahead and refrigerate, it will take longer to bake and will be drier.

Time 1h10m

Yield 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 lb ground beef
2 (26 ounce) jars marinara-flavor Prego spaghetti sauce
1 (15 ounce) carton part-skim ricotta cheese
1 (16 ounce) carton low fat cottage cheese
2 eggs
1 cup parmesan cheese
8 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
16 ounces lasagna noodles

Steps:

  • Spread about 1 cup Prego sauce in bottom of lasagna pan.
  • Boil noodles as directed (about 10 minutes). Remove from heat immediately and run cold water into pan so noodles won't overcook.
  • While noodles are cooking, brown ground beef in large saucepan. Remove from heat and mix in remaining Prego.
  • Set aside 1/2 cup of parmesan and 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese.
  • Combine remaining parmesan and mozzarella with eggs, ricotta, and cottage cheese.
  • Layer in lasaga pan: 1/3 of noodles, 1/3 meat sauce, and 1/2 cheese mixture. Repeat.
  • Top with remaining 1/3 noodles, 1/3 meat sauce, and reserved mozzarella and parmesan.
  • Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
  • Remove foil and bake for another 15 minutes.
  • Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

Tips:

  • Use no-boil lasagna noodles to save time and effort.
  • Make sure to layer the lasagna properly, with a layer of sauce on the bottom, followed by noodles, cheese, and more sauce. Repeat this process until you reach the top of the baking dish.
  • Don't overcook the lasagna. The noodles should be tender but still have a slight bite to them.
  • Let the lasagna rest for at least 15 minutes before cutting and serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and the lasagna to set.
  • Serve the lasagna with a side of garlic bread or a salad.

Conclusion:

No-boil lasagna is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal or a special occasion. With its layers of pasta, sauce, cheese, and meat, lasagna is a hearty and satisfying dish that is sure to please everyone at the table. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy lasagna recipe, give this no-boil version a try. You won't be disappointed!
