MY DAD'S SPAGHETTI

Categories     Sauce     Beef     Simmer

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 10

1.5lbs Ground Hamburger
3-4tbsp Garlic Powder
3-4tbsp Onion Powder
2-3tbsp Basil
2-3tbsp Pepper
1-1.5tbsp All Spice
1-2tsp Sugar
Salt to taste
2x15 Ounce cans of Tomato Sauce
1 6 Ounce can of Tomato Paste

Steps:

  • You need to start by doing the following in parallel: brown the hamburger and make the sauce. In a large saute pan (I recommend 5 quart) start browning the hamburger on low to medium heat. Be careful not to over-brown it before you dump in the sauce. In a 2.5qt sauce pan start warming up the Tomato Sauce and Paste. Warm up and stir the paste until it breaks down. Add in the spices and just keep stirring it together. Make sure the hamburger doesn't over-brown! Once you don't see any pink in the hamburger, dump in the sauce and mix together. You want to simmer this, and stir occasionally for at least 10-15 minutes. This is one of those things where the longer you simmer the better. You can add small amounts of water to keep it moist if it dries out. You can start boiling your water for the noodles any time. At sea level, spaghetti noodles take me exactly 12 minutes to cook. Make sure you add Olive Oil to the noodle water, and salt only after it's boiling. After the noodles are cooked, dump out drain, and rinse with cold water thoroughly. After rinsed, I usually run hot water over them to warm them up. Or sometimes I just put the pot back on the burner for a few seconds. Serve and enjoy! Thanks Dad.

MY DAD'S PASTA AND CAULIFLOWER

My Dad's Pasta and Cauliflower image

A simple, comforting, heartbreaking-ly good Italian dish passed down in my family. I hope this is my last meal. (Note: My father suggests using vegetable or canola oil because he feels olive oil is too strongly flavored for this dish - not to mention it was less expensive back when...)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 head of fresh cauliflower

Provided by Dave Dallas

Categories     Sauces

Time 6h20m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
2 (28 ounce) cans tomato sauce
1 1/2 lbs meatballs (precooked) or 1 1/2 lbs ground beef (cooked & drained)
1/2 cup onion, diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tablespoon italian seasoning
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil (optional)

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in crock pot.
  • Cook on high for 3-5 hours or low for 6-8 hours.
  • Serve over spaghetti or pasta of choice.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients. This will make a big difference in the flavor of your spaghetti.
  • Don't overcook the pasta. It should be al dente, or slightly firm to the bite.
  • Use a large pot to cook the pasta. This will give the pasta plenty of room to move around and cook evenly.
  • Add salt to the pasta water. This will help the pasta to cook evenly and prevent it from sticking together.
  • Save some of the pasta water. You can use this to thin out the sauce if it is too thick.
  • Use a variety of vegetables in your sauce. This will add flavor and nutrition to your dish.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different spices and herbs. This will help you to create a unique and flavorful sauce.
  • Let the sauce simmer for a while. This will allow the flavors to develop and deepen.
  • Serve the spaghetti with grated Parmesan cheese. This will add a delicious finishing touch to your dish.

Conclusion:

My Dad's Spaghetti is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. With a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a flavorful and satisfying pasta dish that the whole family will enjoy.
