Number Of Ingredients 11

1 pound bulk pork sausage
1 cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped sweet red pepper
1/2 cup chopped fresh mushrooms
3 teaspoons minced garlic
2-1/2 cups (10 ounces) shredded Monterey Jack cheese, divided
1-1/3 cups milk
3 eggs
3/4 cup biscuit/baking mix
3/4 teaspoon rubbed sage
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • In large skillet, cook sausage, onion, red pepper and mushrooms over medium heat until meat is no longer pink. Add garlic; cook 1 minute longer. Drain. Stir in 2 cups cheese. Transfer to a greased 9-in. deep-dish pie plate. In small bowl, combine milk, eggs, biscuit mix, sage and pepper. Pour over sausage mixture. Bake at 400° for 20-25 minutes or until knife inserted near center comes out clean. Sprinkle with remaining cheese; bake 1-2 minutes longer or until cheese is melted. Let stand for 10 minutes before cutting.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality ingredients. Using fresh, flavorful ingredients will make a big difference in the overall taste of your pie.
  • Don't overcook the sausage. Sausage is a delicate meat, so it's important to cook it just until it's cooked through. Overcooked sausage will be tough and dry.
  • Use a good quality pie crust. You can either make your own pie crust or use a store-bought one. If you're using a store-bought crust, be sure to thaw it completely before using it.
  • Don't overcrowd the pie. The filling should be evenly distributed throughout the pie crust. If you overcrowd the pie, the filling will not cook evenly.
  • Bake the pie until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. This usually takes about 30-35 minutes.
  • Let the pie cool slightly before serving. This will allow the filling to set and the flavors to meld together.

Conclusion:

Monterey sausage pie is a delicious and flavorful dish that is perfect for any occasion. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. Whether you like your pie with a lot of cheese or a lot of sausage, this recipe is sure to please. So next time you're looking for a hearty and satisfying meal, give Monterey sausage pie a try!
