Mom's Tuna Casserole circa 1949 image

I remember the first time Mother made this casserole, back in 1949. She and I really loved it. So we made it often. Even the leftovers are good. In this version, I have doubled her recipe to feed a larger family.

EASY SLOW COOKER TUNA CASSEROLE

Easy Slow Cooker Tuna Casserole image

I couldn't find many slow cooker pasta recipes here that would cook the pasta along with everything else in the cooker. So this is a basic recipe that I made up, along the lines of my mama's stovetop tuna casserole, that can be tweaked by using different type of soup, vegetables, and pasta types as well as adding more or different cheeses, herbs, or spices. Super easy and even my 2-year-old ate it! It makes a very soft pasta, not al dente.

8 ounces uncooked macaroni pasta
salt and ground black pepper to taste

  • Spray a slow cooker with nonstick spray to coat.

Tips:

  • Use canned tuna that is packed in water, not oil. This will help to reduce the amount of fat in the casserole.
  • If you don't have cream of mushroom soup, you can use cream of celery soup or cream of chicken soup instead.
  • To make the casserole more cheesy, add a cup of shredded cheddar cheese or mozzarella cheese.
  • If you want a crispier topping, sprinkle some crushed crackers or bread crumbs on top of the casserole before baking.
  • Serve the casserole with a side of rice, potatoes, or salad.

Conclusion:

This tuna casserole is a classic comfort food that is easy to make and loved by people of all ages. It is a great way to use up leftover tuna, and it is also a budget-friendly meal. With its creamy sauce, tender tuna, and crispy topping, this casserole is sure to be a hit at your next potluck or family gathering.
