MOM'S CHICKEN AND DUMPLINGS (SLOW COOKER VERSION)
This is a favorite recipe originally made by my mother with chicken on-the-bone and homemade broth cooked over a stove. I have found I don't have the time to start from scratch and that this version tastes just as good with less fuss! You can substitute freshly cooked chicken, if desired. You can line the slow cooker with a slow cooker liner for easy clean-up.

Tips:
- Use a whole chicken: Using a whole chicken will give your dumplings more flavor and make more broth. Shredding the chicken when it's finished cooking is the easiest way to separate the meat from the bones.
- Don't overcook the dumplings: Overcooked dumplings will become tough and chewy. Drop them into the boiling broth and let them cook for 3-4 minutes, or until they've reached the desired consistency.
- Use a variety of vegetables: This recipe calls for carrots and celery, but you can add any vegetables you like. Some other good options include potatoes, peas, and corn.
- Season the broth to taste: The broth is the most important part of this dish, so make sure it's flavorful. Add salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
- Serve immediately: Chicken and dumplings are best served immediately, while the dumplings are still light and fluffy. You can also store them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Conclusion:
Slow cooker chicken and dumplings is a classic comfort food that's perfect for a cold winter day. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a few simple tips, you can make the best chicken and dumplings you've ever had.
