Tips:

  • Choose the right potatoes: Russet potatoes are the best choice for French fries because they are starchy and have a high solids content, which means they will crisp up nicely.
  • Cut the potatoes into even-sized pieces: This will ensure that they cook evenly.
  • Soak the potatoes in water for at least 30 minutes before frying: This will help to remove excess starch and prevent the fries from sticking together.
  • Dry the potatoes thoroughly before frying: This will help them to crisp up.
  • Use a high-quality oil for frying: Canola oil, vegetable oil, or peanut oil are all good choices.
  • Fry the potatoes in small batches: This will prevent the oil from getting too crowded and the fries from sticking together.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: This will also prevent the fries from sticking together and cooking evenly.
  • Cook the fries until they are golden brown and crispy: This will take about 3-4 minutes per batch.
  • Season the fries with salt and pepper, or your favorite seasonings, immediately after frying: This will help the seasonings to stick to the fries.
  • Serve the fries hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
