In the heart of Italy's culinary traditions, the Milano Ciabatta Sandwich stands as a testament to the perfect harmony between rustic simplicity and gourmet sophistication. This delectable creation begins with a freshly baked ciabatta roll, its golden-brown crust encasing a soft and airy interior, subtly infused with the aroma of olive oil. Sliced open, it becomes the stage for a tantalizing array of premium ingredients.

Sliced prosciutto di Parma, cured to perfection in the cool mountain air of Parma, Italy, graces the sandwich with its delicate sweetness and salty undertones. Creamy burrata cheese, made from fresh mozzarella and cream, adds a luscious, velvety texture and a milky richness that complements the prosciutto beautifully. Drizzled with a balsamic glaze, its tangy sweetness elevates the flavors of the sandwich to new heights.

Roasted red peppers, their smoky, charred skin and tender, juicy flesh, add a vibrant touch of color and a delightful smoky flavor. Arugula, with its peppery bite and delicate bitterness, brings a refreshing contrast to the richness of the prosciutto and burrata. Finally, a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, the liquid gold of Italy, completes this culinary masterpiece, adding a fruity aroma and a touch of elegance.

The Milano Ciabatta Sandwich is a true symphony of flavors, textures, and colors. Its ingredients, carefully selected and combined with expertise, create a taste experience that is both satisfying and unforgettable. This sandwich is a celebration of Italian cuisine, a testament to the transformative power of simple ingredients when combined with passion and creativity.

4 thin slices deli ham
4 thin slices soppressata
4 thin slices prosciutto
16 slices mini pepperoni
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese, or to taste
1 medium tomato, thinly sliced
1 drizzle olive oil, or to taste
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
½ cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon red wine vinegar, or more to taste
1 clove garlic, grated
1 teaspoon dried oregano
⅛ teaspoon salt

¼ cup sliced pepperoncini peppers, drained

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
  • Place sliced rolls on the prepared baking sheet (if the top half of roll rocks from side to side too much, slice a tiny bit of the top off). Place 1 slice of provolone on each slice of bread. Tear up the remaining slice of provolone to cover any open bread areas.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until melted (not browned), about 8 minutes. Remove from oven; leave the oven on.
  • Fold two pieces of turkey onto two slices of bread. Fold two pieces of ham onto the other slices of bread.
  • Layer 2 slices of soppressata on top of the turkey. Fold 2 slices of prosciutto onto ham. Place four pepperoni pieces on top of each bread half.
  • Sprinkle slices with some of the Parmesan cheese. Place back into the oven and let bake until pepperoni is looking crispy, about 12 minutes.
  • While slices bake, make the grinder salad. Add mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, garlic, oregano, salt, pepper, and pepper flakes to a bowl. Whisk to combine.
  • Add lettuce, onion, and pepperoncinis to the dressing. Toss to coat.
  • Remove sandwiches from the oven. Top 2 of the ciabatta slices with tomato slices. Using tongs, place a layer of salad on top of the tomatoes. Sprinkle with more Parmesan cheese.
  • Place the non-salad slices on top of the salad ones. Cut each sandwich in half and serve.

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality bread: Use a fresh, crusty ciabatta or baguette for the best results. If the bread is too soft, it will not be able to hold up to the sandwich fillings.
  • Use ripe tomatoes: Ripe tomatoes will add sweetness and flavor to the sandwich. Avoid using tomatoes that are too hard or green.
  • Season the avocado slices: Before adding the avocado slices to the sandwich, season them with salt, pepper, and a squeeze of lemon juice. This will help to bring out the flavor of the avocado.
  • Use a good quality cheese: The cheese you use will make a big difference in the flavor of the sandwich. Choose a cheese that is flavorful and melts well, such as mozzarella, provolone, or cheddar.
  • Don't overcrowd the sandwich: When assembling the sandwich, don't overcrowd it with fillings. This will make it difficult to eat and the fillings will fall out.
  • Toast the bread if desired: Toasting the bread will give it a crispy texture and help to hold the sandwich together. However, this is optional.

Conclusion:

The Milano Ciabatta Sandwich is a delicious and easy-to-make sandwich that is perfect for lunch or dinner. It is made with simple ingredients that are readily available, and it can be customized to your liking. If you are looking for a quick and easy sandwich recipe that is sure to please everyone, the Milano Ciabatta Sandwich is a great option.
