Steps:
- 1. Preheat oven to 350º. In a food processor, process the sugar, flour, and butter until crumbly, like course sand. Press evenly into a 9"X13" pan. Bake for 12 minutes.
- 2. While crust is baking, prepare filling. Drain the juice from the cherries (reserving 1/4 cup for glaze) and coursely chop. Chop the pecans. Mix the eggs, sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the cherries, pecans, and coconut until well mixed and pour over baked crust. Bake an additional 20-25 minutes at 350º until the edges are turning golden brown.
- 3. While the bars are baking, prepare the glaze. Melt the butter and mix in a medium sized bowl with the cherry juice and the powdered sugar. Drizzle glaze evenly over bars while still warm.
- 4. Cut into bars approximately 1" X 2" . Makes about 48 bars.

CHERRY SQUARES
I got this recipe from my mother--she used to make it for club meetings and church functions when I was younger. Now my kids like it too! One thing to note--there is no baking soda or baking powder in this recipe--the beaten eggs make it rise.

Tips:
- Before starting the recipe, make sure to preheat the oven to the temperature specified in the recipe. This ensures that your oven is at the correct temperature when you put your dish in, which will help it cook evenly.
- Line your baking pan with parchment paper. This will prevent your cherry squares from sticking to the pan and make it easier to clean up.
- Use fresh, ripe cherries for the best flavor. If you don't have fresh cherries, you can use frozen or canned cherries. Just be sure to thaw frozen cherries before using them.
- Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can make your cherry squares tough.
- Bake the cherry squares until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. This will ensure that your cherry squares are cooked through.
- Let the cherry squares cool completely before cutting them into squares. This will help them hold their shape.
- Dust the cherry squares with powdered sugar before serving. This will give them a sweet, elegant look.
Conclusion:
Merry Cherry Squares are an easy-to-make, festive treat that is perfect for any occasion. With their sweet, tart cherry filling and buttery crust, these cherry squares are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them.
