MEATBALL ON END

Meatball on End image

This is a method rather than a recipe. I used to eat these great sandwiches from Little Jimmy's in Middletown, NY. I think all hot saucy sandwiches should be made this way. This will feed two hungry people.

Time 10m

Yield 2 sandwiches, 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 loaf Italian bread
6 meatballs (this is relative to the size of your meatballs)
2 cups marinara sauce
parmesan cheese
red pepper flakes

Steps:

  • Cut the loaf of bread in half and scoop out the center so you have a semi-hollow shell of bread. We don't want to slice it length-wise, just in half.
  • Heat your meatballs and sauce and divide between the two halves. Sprinkle with cheese and red pepper flakes and if you want you can stuff the bread back into the cut ends of the loaf.
  • Mangia!

Tips:

  • Use a combination of ground beef and pork: This will give the meatballs a richer flavor and texture.
  • Soak the bread crumbs in milk: This will help to bind the meatballs together and keep them moist.
  • Season the meatballs generously: Use a variety of spices and herbs to give the meatballs flavor.
  • Brown the meatballs before simmering them in sauce: This will help to develop their flavor and prevent them from falling apart.
  • Use a flavorful sauce: The sauce is what will really make the meatballs shine. Choose a sauce that is rich and flavorful, and that complements the flavor of the meatballs.
  • Serve the meatballs hot: Meatballs are best served hot, right out of the oven or saucepan. They can be served over pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes.

Conclusion:

Meatballs are a classic dish that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. They are easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste preferences. With a few simple tips, you can make delicious meatballs that will be the star of your next meal.
