Time 5m

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 large tomatoes
1/3 cup cilantro/coriander leaves (, roughly chopped)
1/4 cup finely chopped white onion ((Note 1))
1 1/2 tbsp finely chopped jalapeño or serrano chilli ((adjust to taste))
1 - 2 tbsp lime juice ((adjust to taste))
1/2 tsp salt ((table salt) or 3/4 tsp kosher / sea salt flakes)

Steps:

  • Cut the tomatoes in half and use a teaspoon to scoop out the seeds and watery centre. Cut into 1cm / 1/3" dice.
  • Combine with remaining ingredients. Set aside for 5 to 20 minutes. Serve as a topping or side for things like tacos, burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas and any Mexican dish!
  • This can be made ahead up to 1 day. Leave out the lime juice and salt (otherwise the tomato juices will leech out), cover and refrigerate. Drain excess liquid, add lime juice and salt just before serving.

###

* ### Use fresh, ripe ingredients. This will make a big difference in the flavor of your pico de gallo. Choose tomatoes that are firm and juicy, onions that are crisp and white, cilantro that is fresh and green, and jalapeños that are plump and spicy. * ### Dice the ingredients finely. This will help the flavors to meld together and make the pico de gallo more enjoyable to eat. * ### Use a sharp knife. This will make it easier to dice the ingredients finely and avoid crushing them. * ### Add the ingredients to the bowl in the following order: tomatoes, onions, cilantro, jalapeños, lime juice, and salt. This will help to prevent the flavors from becoming muddled. * ### Stir the ingredients gently. Over-mixing will make the pico de gallo watery. * ### Let the pico de gallo sit for at least 30 minutes before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld together and develop. * ### Store the pico de gallo in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. ###

Conclusion

Pico de gallo is a delicious and refreshing salsa that is perfect for adding flavor to tacos, burritos, nachos, and other Mexican dishes. It is also a healthy snack that is packed with vitamins and minerals. With a few simple tips, you can make the best pico de gallo or salsa mexicana at home. Enjoy!
