Categories     Dessert

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 D'Anjou pears (aka Anjou pears)
1/2 cup (120ml) pure maple syrup
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
optional toppings: maple almond granola, Greek yogurt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). I don't line my baking sheet when I make these, but you absolutely can with parchment or a silicone baking mat.
  • Cut pears in half, then cut a small sliver off the underside so the pears sit flat when placed upright on the baking sheet. See video above for visual. Using a large or medium cookie scoop or melon baller (or even a teaspoon), core out the seeds. Arrange pears, facing up, on the baking sheet. Sprinkle evenly with cinnamon- feel free to add more cinnamon if you'd like.
  • Whisk the maple syrup and vanilla extract together in a small bowl. Drizzle most of it all over the pears, reserving about 2 Tablespoons for after the pears are finished baking.
  • Bake pears for about 25 minutes until soft and lightly browned on the edges. Remove from the oven and immediately drizzle with remaining maple syrup mixture. Serve warm with granola and yogurt. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a cast iron skillet with coconut oil or avocado oil.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe but firm pears: Pears that are too soft will break down during baking, while pears that are too hard will not soften properly. Look for pears that have a slight give when you press them gently.
  • Use a variety of pears: Different varieties of pears have different flavors and textures, so using a mix can create a more complex and interesting dish. Some good choices include Bartlett, Bosc, Anjou, and Comice pears.
  • Don't overcook the pears: Pears should be tender but still hold their shape. Overcooked pears will become mushy and lose their flavor.
  • Serve the pears warm or at room temperature: Baked pears are delicious served warm or at room temperature. They can be enjoyed on their own, or topped with yogurt, ice cream, or whipped cream.

Conclusion:

Maple baked pears are a simple but elegant dessert that is perfect for any occasion. They are easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. Whether you like them simple or topped with your favorite toppings, baked pears are a delicious and healthy way to satisfy your sweet tooth.
