Using real maple syrup gives this recipe the optimum flavor boost.

Provided by Diana Trabanco

Categories     Cakes

Time 4h5m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 pkg refrigerated dough sheet
2 pkg 8 oz. cream cheese
1/2 c sugar
2 Tbsp all purpose flour
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp maple extract
1 egg
1 can(s) 20 oz apple pie filling
1 1/2 c crushed oats & honey granola bars
1/2 c real maple syrup

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray bottom and sides of 13x 9 inch pan with cooking spray. unroll dough and press in bottom and 1/2 inch up sides of pan.
  • 2. In large bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, flour, vanilla, maple extract, and egg with an electric mixer.
  • 3. Spread cream cheese mixture evenly over dough. Spoon apple pie filling over cream cheese mixture. Sprinke with crushed granola bars.
  • 4. Bake 30-35 minutes until crust is deep golden brown and filling is set. Cool 30 minutes. Refrigerate 2 hours. For bars cut into 6 rows by 4 rows. Drizzle each one with maple syrup. Cover and refrigerate any remaining bars up to 3 days.

Tips:

  • For a gooey oatmeal layer, use old-fashioned oats. Quick oats will absorb too much liquid and make the bars dry.
  • To achieve a crispy oatmeal layer, toast the oats before baking. This will give them a nutty flavor and a satisfying crunch.
  • Use a combination of brown sugar and granulated sugar for a richer flavor. Brown sugar adds moisture and a slight molasses flavor, while granulated sugar provides sweetness and a crispy texture.
  • Don't overmix the batter. Overmixing can develop the gluten in the flour, resulting in a tough crust.
  • Bake the bars until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. If you're not sure if the bars are done, insert a toothpick into the center. If it comes out clean, the bars are done.
  • Let the bars cool completely before cutting them. This will help them set and prevent them from falling apart.

Conclusion:

These maple apple crunch bars are the perfect fall treat. They're easy to make and packed with flavor. The combination of sweet apples, crunchy oats, and gooey maple syrup is irresistible. Plus, they're a great way to use up any leftover apples you may have. So next time you're looking for a delicious and easy dessert, give these maple apple crunch bars a try.
