Vegetable oil for frying
16 wonton wrappers (available in refrigerated Asian foods section)
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 cups frozen whipped topping, thawed
16 large strawberries, sliced
1 pint fresh raspberries
4 fresh mint sprigs (optional)

Using tongs and working with 1 wonton at a time, submerge wontons into hot oil, frying until golden brown, about 15 seconds for first side and 10 seconds for second side. Transfer fried wontons to paper towels to drain (wontons will continue to color slightly as they cool). Sprinkle fried wontons with cinnamon. Cool completely.
  • To Assemble:
  • Place 4 fried wontons on work surface. Spread 1 tablespoon of whipped topping over each. Arrange 1 sliced strawberry and 2 to 3 raspberries over whipped topping on each wonton. Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     appetizer

Time 40m

Yield 6 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 15

1 medium carrot
Quarter of a small onion
1 large clove garlic
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 sweet Italian sausage link (about 3 ounces)
6 ounces ground beef
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1/4 cup prepared marinara sauce
3 tablespoons tomato paste
Vegetable oil, for frying
12 wonton wrappers
1 cup shredded mozzarella
1/4 cup grated Parmesan
1/3 cup prepared alfredo sauce
1/2 cup sliced cherry peppers (from about 3 peppers)

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Pulse the carrot, onion and garlic in a food processor until finely chopped.
  • Heat the olive oil and 2 tablespoons water in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat until the water starts to boil. Add the sausage link and cover the pan. Cook until browned in spots, 4 to 5 minutes. Remove the lid and continue to cook until all the water has evaporated and only the oil is left, about 5 minutes. Remove the sausage from the pan and slice into half-moons and set aside.
  • Add the carrot mixture to the pan and cook, stirring, until the onions begin to soften and the garlic is fragrant, 2 to 3 minutes. Add the ground beef, 1/2 teaspoon salt and a few grinds of pepper cook, breaking up the beef into very small pieces with a wooden spoon, until cooked through, 5 to 6 minutes. Stir in the marinara, tomato paste, sausage, and 1/4 cup water and bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, until the sauce begins to thicken, about 15 minutes. Keep warm.
  • Attach a deep-fat fry thermometer to the side of a large heavy bottom pot. Fill with about 1-inch of vegetable oil to 375 degrees F.
  • Working in batches of 2 to 3, fry the wontons, until golden brown and crisp, 1 to 2 minutes. (Be sure to return the oil to 375 degrees F between batches.) Sprinkle with salt to taste.
  • Lay 6 wontons on the back of a baking sheet, overlapping slightly. Spread half of the meat sauce over the chips. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup mozzarella, 2 tablespoons Parmesan, half of the alfredo sauce and 1/4 cup of the cherry peppers. Lay the remaining 6 wontons on top and repeat with the remaining ingredients in the same order. Bake until the cheese has melted, about 10 minutes. Slide the chips off the back of the baking sheet onto a serving platter.

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/2 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
1/4 cup granulated sugar
4 (17- by 12-inch) phyllo sheets, thawed
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 1/2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 (11-ounce) cans mandarin oranges in light syrup, drained and syrup reserved
Confectioners sugar for dusting

Steps:

  • Put oven rack in middle position and preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Whisk together five-spice powder and 2 tablespoons granulated sugar in a small bowl.
  • Cover phyllo with overlapping sheets of plastic wrap and a dampened kitchen towel. Arrange 1 phyllo sheet on a large baking sheet, then brush with some butter and sprinkle with one third of spiced sugar. Make 2 more layers in same manner. Top with remaining phyllo sheet and brush with remaining butter. (For a corrugated look, invert a large rectangular cooling rack and place it on top of phyllo.)
  • Bake until golden, 12 to 15 minutes. Carefully remove cooling rack (if using) and transfer phyllo (in 1 piece) with 2 metal spatulas to another rack to cool.
  • While phyllo cools, blend together cream cheese, lemon juice, vanilla, 2 tablespoons reserved orange syrup (discard remainder), and remaining 2 tablespoons granulated sugar in a food processor until smooth. Transfer to a bowl and fold in oranges.
  • Break phyllo with your hands or cut with a serrated knife into 12 pieces. Arrange 1 piece of phyllo on a plate and top with a dollop of orange cream. Repeat layering and top with another piece of phyllo. Make 3 more napoleons in same manner. Dust with confectioners sugar.

Categories     appetizer

Time 2h30m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 16

30 round wonton wrappers, thawed if frozen
Cooking spray, for the pans
1/4 cup soy sauce
3 tablespoons fresh orange juice
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
2 teaspoons toasted sesame oil
1-inch knob fresh ginger, finely chopped
1 small Fresno pepper, seeded and finely chopped
4 scallions, finely chopped
1 pound sushi-grade tuna, cut into a 1/4-inch dice
7 radishes, chopped
2 Persian cucumbers, chopped
1 avocado, pitted, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1 teaspoon black sesame seeds
Kosher salt

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray 2 large rimmed baking sheets with cooking spray.
  • Cut the wonton wrappers in half and arrange them on the baking sheets in a single layer. Spray the tops with cooking spray. Bake until crisp and golden brown, 6 to 7 minutes.
  • Whisk the soy sauce, orange juice, lime juice, lemon juice, sesame oil, ginger, Fresno pepper and scallions together in a medium bowl. Add the tuna and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours and up to 8 hours.
  • Before serving, add the radishes, cucumbers, avocado and the sesame seeds to the tuna and gently stir to combine; season with salt to taste. Transfer to a serving bowl with the wonton chips on the side.

Tips:

  • For the best results, use fresh mandarin oranges. If you can't find fresh mandarins, you can use canned mandarins, but be sure to drain them well before using.
  • To make the wonton wrappers easier to work with, microwave them for a few seconds to soften them.
  • Be careful not to overcook the wonton wrappers. They should be crispy, but not brown.
  • If you don't have a pastry brush, you can use a spoon to spread the egg wash on the wonton wrappers.
  • Serve the Napoleons immediately after they are assembled.

Conclusion:

Mandarin Napoleons are a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With their delicate wonton wrapper pastry, creamy mandarin filling, and sweet sugared wonton wrapper topping, they are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them. So next time you're looking for a special dessert to make, give Mandarin Napoleons a try. You won't be disappointed!
