Steps:
- Heat a large, 12-inch cast iron (or other non-stick) skillet over medium-high heat. Add a few tablespoons of oil and heat for 30 seconds. Add the diced onions and cook until they start to soften. Add the green pepper and continue cooking over medium-high heat until they start to brown. Next add the sausage. Allow it to get nice and crispy. Transfer everything to a bowl and keep warm while cooking the potatoes.
- Add a little more oil to the pan, then add the potatoes and season well with salt and pepper. Cook, turning the potatoes every few minutes with a spatula, until they start to brown. Add the onions, peppers and sausage back to the skillet. Sprinkle with smoked paprika and garlic powder. Continue cooking for another 5-10 minutes until the potatoes are tender. Taste and adjust seasonings, if needed.
- Serve with sliced tomato and a fried egg on top, if desired, and a few shakes of hot sauce.
Tips:
- Use high-quality ingredients: Fresh, flavorful ingredients will make your lumberjack hash shine. Look for high-quality breakfast sausage, vegetables, and potatoes.
- Cook the potatoes thoroughly: The potatoes should be cooked through and slightly crispy on the outside. If they're not cooked through, they'll be hard and unpleasant to eat.
- Don't overcrowd the pan: When cooking the hash, don't overcrowd the pan. This will prevent the ingredients from cooking evenly and will make the hash mushy.
- Season to taste: Be sure to season the hash with salt, pepper, and other seasonings to taste. This will help to bring out the flavors of the ingredients.
- Serve with your favorite toppings: Lumberjack hash is delicious served with a variety of toppings, such as eggs, salsa, sour cream, and avocado.
Conclusion:
Lumberjack hash is a hearty, flavorful breakfast dish that is perfect for a weekend brunch or a special occasion. It's easy to make and can be tailored to your own personal preferences. So next time you're looking for a delicious and satisfying breakfast, give lumberjack hash a try!
