Time 8h30m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 1/2 lbs ground beef
4 cups cabbage, chopped (or more-I use the whole head of cabbage)
1 cup instant rice (I use brown)
8 ounces tomato sauce
12 ounces tomatoes, chopped
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
1 small onion, diced
1 cup water
1/2 cup ketchup (I sub more tomato sauce)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • Cook beef and onion until done, drain.
  • Add to remaining ingredients in crockpot. Cook over low 4-8 hours.
  • I make the day before (refrigerating) and when leaving for work turn on the following morning.

Tips:

  • Choose the right cabbage: Look for a large, firm head of cabbage with tightly packed leaves. This will make it easier to roll the cabbage rolls.
  • Blanch the cabbage leaves: This will help to soften the leaves and make them more pliable, making them easier to roll.
  • Use a variety of fillings: Don't be afraid to experiment with different fillings. Ground beef, pork, and rice are classic choices, but you can also use lamb, turkey, or vegetables.
  • Season the filling well: Don't be afraid to add plenty of flavor to the filling. Use a variety of herbs and spices, and don't forget the salt and pepper.
  • Roll the cabbage rolls tightly: This will help to keep the filling in place and prevent the cabbage rolls from falling apart.
  • Cook the cabbage rolls slowly: This will help to tenderize the cabbage and the filling.
  • Serve the cabbage rolls with a variety of sauces: Tomato sauce, cream sauce, or mushroom sauce are all great options.

Conclusion:

Golumpki, also known as stuffed cabbage, is a delicious and hearty dish that is perfect for a cold winter day. It is a versatile dish that can be made with a variety of fillings and sauces. With a little planning and effort, you can make a delicious and satisfying meal that your whole family will enjoy.
