Tips:
- Selecting the Right Apples: Choose firm, tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp to achieve a balanced flavor. Avoid soft apples as they tend to turn mushy during baking.
- Preparing the Apples: Peel, core, and slice the apples thinly to ensure even cooking and distribution throughout the cake batter.
- Mixing the Dry Ingredients: Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. This step ensures that the ingredients are evenly distributed and prevents lumps in the batter.
- Combining Wet and Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, oil, and vanilla extract. Gradually add this mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Overmixing can result in a tough cake.
- Incorporating Apples and Spices: Fold in the sliced apples and spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice) into the batter. Be gentle to prevent breaking the apple slices.
- Baking the Cake: Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cooling and Serving: Allow the cake to cool completely before serving. This helps it set properly and prevents it from falling apart.
