JUNE BUG (NON-ALCOHOLIC)

June Bug (Non-Alcoholic) image

This was posted in 6/2010's Better Homes and Gardens magazine. I'm in perpetual search for different things to make with my grandkids. The very name tickled them to death. A great summertime drink. Note: To make a version using alcohol just add 1/2 cup white rum. In the South a june bug is what we call an adorable pesky child...so apropos.

JUNE BUG (COCKTAIL)

June Bug (Cocktail) image

Oh so good! Like sipping a bit of the tropics. I'm not much of a drinker, but this has all my favorites... midori, pineapple, coconut; a little sweet, a little sour. Yum! I've seen the banana liquor left out in some recipes, so I've listed it as optional.(F.Y.I. 1 oz. is the size of a small shot glass.)

Categories     Beverages

Time 5m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 ounce Midori melon liqueur
1 ounce malibu coconut rum
1/2 ounce banana liqueur (optional)
1 ounce prepared sweet-and-sour mix
2 ounces pineapple juice

Steps:

  • Mix well and pour over ice. Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Select ripe and flavorful fruit: The quality of your fruit will greatly impact the taste of your non-alcoholic June Bug. Choose ripe, juicy strawberries and watermelon for a refreshing and flavorful drink.
  • Chill your ingredients: Chilling your ingredients, including the fruit, lime juice, and soda water, will help to create a cold and refreshing drink. You can also freeze the fruit for a few hours or overnight for an even colder treat.
  • Use fresh herbs: Fresh herbs like mint or basil can add a pop of flavor and freshness to your June Bug. If you don't have fresh herbs on hand, you can use dried herbs, but be sure to use less as they are more concentrated.
  • Adjust the sweetness to your liking: The amount of sugar or honey you add to your June Bug is up to you. Start with a small amount and taste test as you go, adding more if needed. You can also use other natural sweeteners like agave nectar or maple syrup.
  • Garnish with fresh fruit and herbs: Garnish your June Bug with fresh fruit slices, berries, or herbs for an extra touch of color and flavor. This will also make your drink more visually appealing.

Conclusion:

The June Bug is a refreshing and flavorful non-alcoholic drink that is perfect for summer gatherings. With its combination of fresh fruit, lime juice, and sparkling soda water, this drink is sure to be a hit with people of all ages. Whether you're looking for a healthy alternative to alcoholic beverages or simply want to enjoy a delicious and refreshing drink, the June Bug is a great choice.
