Tips:

  • Use a good quality cheese: This will make a big difference in the flavor of your mac and cheese. Look for a sharp cheddar cheese or a blend of cheeses that includes cheddar.
  • Cook the macaroni al dente: This means cooking it until it is just tender, but still has a little bit of a bite to it. This will prevent it from becoming mushy in the slow cooker.
  • Use a combination of milk and cream: This will make the sauce smooth and creamy. You can also use all milk, but the sauce will be thinner.
  • Season the sauce to taste: Add salt, pepper, and other spices to taste. You can also add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a little bit of heat.
  • Top the mac and cheese with breadcrumbs before baking: This will give it a nice crispy topping. You can also use crushed crackers or grated Parmesan cheese.
  • Let the mac and cheese rest for a few minutes before serving: This will allow the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken.

Conclusion:

Jan's favorite slow-cooker mac and cheese is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a busy weeknight meal. It is also a great dish to take to potlucks and parties. With a few simple tips, you can make the best slow-cooker mac and cheese that everyone will love.
