Categories     Side

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 6

11/4 pounds Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved lengthwise
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
3 cloves garlic, finely minced
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Using a paring knife, score the core of each Brussels sprout half. Place the sprouts in a bowl. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the olive oil and garlic and stir to mix. Pour the butter mixture over the sprouts and toss until they are well coated. Season with salt and pepper. Arrange in an even layer on a rimmed baking sheet. Roast the Brussels sprouts until a knife easily pierces the center, 35 to 40 minutes. Transfer to a bowl and serve immediately or at room temperature.

Tips:

  • Choosing the right Brussels sprouts: Look for firm, deep green sprouts with tightly closed leaves. Avoid those that are yellow or have brown spots.
  • Trimming Brussels sprouts: Trim the stem end of each sprout and remove any discolored or damaged leaves.
  • Cooking Brussels sprouts: Brussels sprouts can be cooked in various ways, including roasting, sautéing, grilling, and steaming. Roasting brings out their natural sweetness, while sautéing gives them a slightly crispy exterior. Grilling adds a smoky flavor, and steaming preserves their nutrients.
  • Seasoning Brussels sprouts: Brussels sprouts pair well with a variety of seasonings, including garlic, lemon, thyme, rosemary, and bacon. Experiment with different combinations to find your favorite flavors.
  • Serving Brussels sprouts: Brussels sprouts can be served as a side dish, main course, or appetizer. They can also be added to salads, soups, and stews.
