HERBAL ICE CUBES

Herbal Ice Cubes image

Freezing is a simple and excellent way to preserve fresh culinary herbs. Packing in ice cube trays makes it easy to always have fresh herbs on hand, adding fresh herb flavor to soups, sauces, and drinks. Some people prefer to freeze in a good quality olive oil, I prefer the boiling water method, which is listed in this recipe here today. You can freeze herbs individually or in combinations of other herbs.

Pomegranate Ice Cubes image

From the Pom Wonderful website comes this super-easy and elegant twist on the humble ice cube. These add a lovely pinkish hue to any light-colored drink (sparkling water or ginger ale make for an especially pretty presentation). NOTE: You can save time and work by using packaged pomegranate seeds, available in some grocery stores (such as Trader Joe's) in the refrigerated produce section. Cook time is freezing time.

Time 3h15m

Yield 32 ice cubes

Number Of Ingredients 2

1/2 cup pomegranate seeds
2 cups water

Steps:

  • Score 1 fresh pomegranate and place in a bowl of water. Break open the pomegranate under water to free the seed sacs. The seeds will sink to the bottom of the bowl and the membrane will float to the top. Sieve and put the seeds in a separate bowl. Measure out 1/2 cup of the seeds and set aside. (Refrigerate or freeze remaining seeds for another use.).
  • Fill two ice cube trays with water almost to the top, and place in freezer for about an hour.
  • When cubes are semi-frozen, remove the trays from the freezer. Sprinkle pomegranate seeds into cubes in tray. Place trays back in the freezer until cubes are frozen solid.
  • Serve with beverage of your choice.

KOOL-AID ICE CUBES IN SPRITE RECIPE - (4.4/5)

Kool-Aid Ice Cubes in Sprite Recipe - (4.4/5) image

Provided by rejadez

Number Of Ingredients 1

3 different variations of Kool-Aid (such as grape, cherry, and lime)

Steps:

  • Make each separate batch of Kool-Aid in a pitcher and pour into ice cube trays. It is fun to use different shapes and colors. Freeze the Kool-Aid ice cubes and then add to sprite or your favorite beverage, once frozen.

Tips:

  • Choose the right water: Use filtered or distilled water for the clearest ice cubes. Tap water can contain impurities that can make your ice cubes cloudy or discolored.
  • Boil the water first: Boiling the water before freezing it removes dissolved gases and impurities, which can also make your ice cubes cloudy. If you're using distilled water, you can skip this step.
  • Freeze the water slowly: The slower the water freezes, the clearer the ice cubes will be. You can do this by placing the water in a covered container in the freezer and letting it freeze undisturbed for at least 24 hours.
  • Use an ice cube tray with a lid: This will help to prevent the ice cubes from absorbing odors from other foods in the freezer.
  • Store the ice cubes in a freezer-safe bag: This will help to keep the ice cubes fresh and prevent them from freezer burn.

Conclusion:

Making ice cubes at home is a simple and easy task that can save you money and help you to enjoy your favorite drinks at their best. By following these tips, you can make clear, fresh ice cubes that will make your drinks look and taste their best.
