RED CHRISTMAS PUNCH (HOT MULLED CIDER)

Red Christmas Punch (hot mulled cider) image

We make this every Christmas, and it's a favorite with friends and family. Sometimes I vary the juices - you can use cranberry instead of cherry, or cranapple juice instead of apple cider.

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 qt apple cider
1 qt cherry cider or juice
2 juice oranges
4 cinnamon sticks
1 tsp whole cloves

Steps:

  • 1. Mix together the ciders/juices in a large kettle over medium heat.
  • 2. Peel the zest off one orange in large strips. Place zest, cinnamon sticks, and cloves in a double square of cheesecloth, and tie tightly. Place spice bag into the cider mixture.
  • 3. Heat the cider to serving temperature - like hot coffee or tea (do not boil). Barely simmer the punch for about 15 minutes.
  • 4. Juice the orange and add the juice to the cider. Halve and slice the remaining orange and float the slices on top of the hot punch. Serve hot with an orange slice and cinnamon stick if desired.

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh fruits and juices will give your punch the best flavor. If you can't find fresh fruits, frozen fruits are a good substitute.
  • Choose a good quality wine: The wine you use will make a big difference in the taste of your punch. Choose a wine that you enjoy drinking on its own.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment: There are many different ways to make hot Christmas punch. Feel free to experiment with different flavors and ingredients until you find a combination that you love.
  • Garnish your punch: A garnish can add a festive touch to your punch. Try adding a cinnamon stick, a slice of orange, or a sprig of mint.
  • Serve your punch warm: Hot Christmas punch is best served warm. You can either heat it up on the stove or in a slow cooker.

Conclusion:

Hot Christmas punch is a delicious and festive drink that is perfect for holiday gatherings. It is easy to make and can be tailored to your own taste. With a few simple tips, you can make a hot Christmas punch that will be the hit of your party.
