Provided by Swanee Speed

Categories     World Cuisine Recipes     Latin American     Mexican

Time 15m

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 ½ cups cold water
½ cup white sugar
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
¼ teaspoon salt
6 cups whole milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Whisk cold water, sugar, cocoa powder, flour, cinnamon, cloves, and salt in a saucepan until smooth. Place over low heat; bring to a simmer, whisking constantly, until mixture is thickened and hot, about 4 minutes. Stir in milk; heat until hot chocolate just forms bubbles around the edge. Mix vanilla extract into hot chocolate. Blend until smooth with an immersion blender to make the drink slightly frothy.

Nutrition Facts : Calories 118 calories, Carbohydrate 16.1 g, Cholesterol 12.2 mg, Fat 4.2 g, Fiber 0.7 g, Protein 4.4 g, SaturatedFat 2.4 g, Sodium 98.8 mg, Sugar 14 g

Tips:

  • Use high-quality chocolate. The better the chocolate, the better the hot chocolate will be. Look for chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 70%.
  • Don't boil the milk. Boiling the milk will cause the chocolate to seize up and become grainy. Heat the milk until it is just simmering, or about 180 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Whisk the chocolate into the milk slowly. This will help prevent the chocolate from clumping.
  • Add flavorings. Once the hot chocolate is made, you can add flavorings such as vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, or peppermint extract. You can also add whipped cream, marshmallows, or chocolate shavings.
  • Serve hot. Hot chocolate is best served immediately after it is made.

Conclusion:

Hot chocolate is a delicious and comforting drink that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It is a great way to warm up on a cold day or to relax in the evening. With so many different recipes to choose from, there is sure to be a hot chocolate that everyone will love. So next time you are looking for a warm and comforting drink, give hot chocolate a try.
