HONEY-GARLIC SHRIMP

Honey-Garlic Shrimp image

While it may sound like a plain, generic item you see on a menu at the food court at the mall, honey-garlic shrimp is actually one of the most exciting and delicious garlic shrimp recipes I know. It's the perfect balance of sweet and savory while still packing a substantial garlic punch, plus it's extremely fast and simple to make. This recipe uses half the honey that typical recipes use and allows the natural sweetness of the shrimp to shine through. Serve over hot cooked rice or the starchy base of your choice such as noodles.

Yield 2

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 pound large raw shrimp (16-20 count), peeled and deveined
1 tablespoon minced fresh garlic
2 tablespoons honey
½ teaspoon freshly grated ginger
1 tablespoon soy sauce, or more to taste
1 teaspoon Asian fish sauce, or to taste
2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 cup thinly sliced green onion, or to taste

Steps:

  • Make sure shrimp are fully thawed and well drained. Keep in the refrigerator while you make the marinade.
  • Whisk garlic, honey, ginger, soy sauce, and fish sauce together in a bowl.
  • Add shrimp and toss thoroughly with a spatula for 2 minutes until completely coated. Cover with plastic wrap and marinate in the refrigerator for 30 to 60 minutes; toss occasionally while marinating.
  • Brush a large nonstick skillet with oil and heat over high heat until you begin to see small wisps of smoke. Use tongs to immediately transfer shrimp into the hot skillet in a single layer. Set excess marinade aside.
  • Sear shrimp for 2 minutes, then flip over. Dump in marinade and cook for 1 minute. Turn off heat and flip shrimp once more; let sit for about 1 minute. The marinade in the pan will reduce down to a beautiful glaze just from the residual heat in the pan. Garnish with green onion.

Honey -Lime Marinade for Shrimp image

This recipe was originally used as a dressing for cedar planked salmon. I decided to use it as a marinade for shrimp. It worked beautifully. Gives the shrimp an excellent flavor. From the Weber's Real Grilling Cookbook

Time 1h10m

Yield 3-4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons minced fresh chives
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined

Steps:

  • Place all ingredients, except oil, in a blender and mix until well blended. With the blender still running, slowly pour in the oil to make a smooth dressing.
  • You can also just whisk all ingredients together until well combined.
  • Put shrimp in plastic zipper bag, cover with marinade and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours.
  • Place shrimp in a grill wok, or thread onto skewers and grill 5-10 minutes or until shrimp turn pink.
  • Prep time includes marinade time.

Tips:

  • Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. Fresh lime juice and zest, as well as fresh cilantro, will make a big difference in the taste of your marinade.
  • Be generous with the marinade. The more marinade you use, the more flavor the shrimp will absorb.
  • Let the shrimp marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 24 hours. The longer the shrimp marinate, the more flavorful they will be.
  • If you are short on time, you can marinate the shrimp for just 15 minutes. However, the shrimp will not be as flavorful as if they had been marinated for longer.
  • When you are ready to cook the shrimp, be sure to drain off the marinade. This will help prevent the shrimp from becoming overcooked.
  • You can cook the shrimp in a variety of ways, including grilling, baking, or sautéing. Be sure to cook the shrimp until they are opaque and firm.

Conclusion:

Honey lime marinade is a delicious and versatile way to add flavor to shrimp. It is easy to make and can be used with a variety of cooking methods. Whether you are grilling, baking, or sautéing shrimp, a honey lime marinade will help you create a flavorful and memorable dish.
