HOMESTYLE MEATLOAF

Homestyle Meatloaf image

I got this recipe out of the Fannie Farmer Boston Cooking School cookbook. It is now my only meatloaf recipe and my family is constantly requesting it. I did change slightly and you can change the ketchup and water to just water or just milk. The Parmesan cheese can be omitted as well. If you prefer you can use any other type of ground beef. And the original recipe called for bacon placed on top.

HARLEY-DAVIDSON CAFE HOMESTYLE MEATLOAF

Harley-Davidson Cafe Homestyle Meatloaf image

This comes from the Harley-Davidson Cafe in New York, which apparently is no longer in business. However, the Las Vegas Harley-Davidson Cafe may still serve it. The portions in the recipe would have to be adjusted unless you are freezing some or serving for a good size dinner party.

Tips for Making the Best Homestyle Meatloaf:

  • Use a combination of ground meats. This will give your meatloaf a more complex flavor and texture. Ground beef is a classic choice, but you can also use ground pork, veal, or lamb.
  • Don't overmix the meatloaf mixture. Overmixing can make the meatloaf tough. Mix the ingredients just until they are combined.
  • Add some moisture to the meatloaf mixture. This will help keep the meatloaf moist and prevent it from becoming dry. You can add moisture by using bread crumbs, crackers, oatmeal, or eggs.
  • Season the meatloaf mixture well. Use a variety of spices and herbs to give your meatloaf flavor. Some classic seasonings for meatloaf include onion, garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, and oregano.
  • Bake the meatloaf in a loaf pan. This will help the meatloaf hold its shape and cook evenly.
  • Baste the meatloaf with ketchup, BBQ sauce, or another glaze during baking. This will help keep the meatloaf moist and give it a delicious crust.
  • Let the meatloaf rest before slicing. This will help the meatloaf hold its shape and make it easier to slice.

Conclusion:

Homestyle meatloaf is a classic comfort food that is easy to make and loved by people of all ages. With a few simple tips, you can make a delicious and moist meatloaf that your family and friends will love. So next time you're looking for a hearty and satisfying meal, give homestyle meatloaf a try. You won't be disappointed.
