FILLING:
4 large granny smith apples, cored, and cut in medium pieces
1 Tbsp xylitol
1 Tbsp lime or lemon juice
1/4 c filtered water
1 Tbsp arrowroot starch
TOPPING:
1 c hazelnut flour
1/4 tsp celtic sea salt
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 Tbsp hazelnut extract
1 Tbsp coconut oil
2 Tbsp xylitol

Steps:

  • 1. Toss the cut up apples in a large bowl and add the xylitol and citrus juice.
  • 2. Stir the water and arrowroot and make a slurry, then toss into the apple mixture
  • 3. In a medium bowl combine the hazelnut flour, salt and cinnamon
  • 4. In a small bowl combine the hazelnut extract, coconut oil and xylitol. Stir into the hazelnut flour mixture until it has a crumbly consistency.
  • 5. Put your apples into a medium casserole dish and sprinkle with the crumb mixture.
  • 6. Bake at 350'F for 45 minutes or until the apples are soft and the top golden brown.
  • 7. Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Use a variety of apples. This will give your crisp a more complex flavor and texture. Some good choices include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Pink Lady apples.
  • Peel and slice the apples thinly. This will help them cook evenly and prevent them from becoming mushy.
  • Don't overcrowd the baking dish. The apples should be spread out in a single layer so that they can cook properly.
  • Use a combination of oats and flour for the topping. This will give the crisp a crispy and flavorful topping.
  • Add some spices to the topping. This will give the crisp a warm and inviting flavor. Some good choices include cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger.
  • Bake the crisp until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling. This usually takes about 30-35 minutes.
  • Let the crisp cool slightly before serving. This will help the topping set and prevent the apples from falling apart.

Conclusion:

Hazelnut apple crisp is a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. With its sweet and tart apples, crunchy oat topping, and nutty streusel, this crisp is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
