Crock Pot Hamburger Cabbage Casserole-Revised image

Last year I posted this recipe from another Weight Watchers member at a meeting. With the helpful comments from other 'Zaar' members, I made some adjustments. If you like cabbage rolls but not the work of making them, this is a perfect recipe for you. There is a similar recipe posted on the 'Zaar', but this one has a few differences and is worth the try.

Time 1h5m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 lb lean ground beef
1 large onion, sliced
1 cup water
1 cup celery, diced
1/4 cup butter, cut up into pieces
salt and pepper, to taste
1 head cabbage

Steps:

  • Make patties using ground beef and layer onto bottom of casserole dish.
  • Layer cabbage, onion, celery over top of patties.
  • Slice butter over top, then add salt and pepper to taste.
  • Pour water over mixture, cover with foil and bake at 350°F for 45 minutes to one hour, or until cabbage is tender.

Tips:

  • Choose the right ground beef: For a flavorful casserole, use 80% lean ground beef. This will give you a nice balance of meat and fat.
  • Season the beef well: Before cooking the beef, season it generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. This will help to enhance the flavor of the meat.
  • Brown the beef thoroughly: Cook the beef over medium-high heat until it is browned all over. This will help to seal in the juices and prevent the meat from becoming dry.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: In addition to cabbage, you can also add other vegetables to your casserole, such as carrots, celery, onions, and bell peppers. This will add flavor and nutrition to the dish.
  • Don't overcook the casserole: The casserole should be cooked until the vegetables are tender and the beef is cooked through, but be careful not to overcook it, or the vegetables will become mushy.
  • Serve the casserole with your favorite toppings: Some popular toppings for hamburger cabbage casserole include shredded cheese, sour cream, and salsa. You can also serve it with a side of mashed potatoes or rice.

Conclusion:

Hamburger cabbage casserole is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. It is a great way to use up leftover ground beef and cabbage, and it is also a budget-friendly meal. With its simple ingredients and customizable toppings, hamburger cabbage casserole is sure to please everyone at the table.
