2 lbs ham, Cooked, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons water
1 (16 ounce) can dark sweet cherries
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
5 teaspoons cornstarch
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 cup sugar
1/8 teaspoon allspice
2 tablespoons white vinegar
1/2 cup rose wine (optional)

Tips:

  • Choose the right ham: Select a fully cooked ham, such as a spiral-sliced or bone-in ham. Look for a ham that is at least 10 pounds to feed a crowd.
  • Make the almond cherry sauce in advance: This will give the flavors time to meld and develop. The sauce can be made up to 3 days ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator.
  • Use a variety of cherries: For a complex flavor, use a mix of sweet and tart cherries. You can also use frozen cherries if fresh cherries are not available.
  • Don't overcook the ham: Ham is already cooked, so you just need to heat it through. Overcooking will make the ham dry and tough.
  • Let the ham rest before slicing: This will help the juices redistribute throughout the ham, resulting in a more tender and flavorful meat.
  • Serve the ham with your favorite sides: Mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, and a green salad are all great options.

Conclusion:

Ham with Almond Cherry Sauce is a delicious and easy-to-make main course that is perfect for any special occasion. The combination of sweet and tart cherries, almonds, and creamy sauce is sure to please everyone at the table. Make this dish ahead of time, so you can relax and enjoy your guests.
