Gruyere is the most common type of cheese used but really, you can't go wrong no matter what type of cheese you use, just as long as it's a good melting cheese!

Tips:

  • Use high-quality bread for the best results. Look for a sturdy bread that can hold up to the fillings and won't get soggy.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan when cooking the French toast. This will help to ensure that the bread cooks evenly.
  • If you're using a non-stick pan, you may not need to add any butter or oil. However, if you're using a regular pan, you'll need to add a little bit of butter or oil to prevent the bread from sticking.
  • To make sure the French toast is cooked through, use a fork to gently pierce the center of the bread. If the fork comes out clean, the French toast is done.
  • Serve the French toast immediately with your favorite toppings. Some popular toppings include maple syrup, powdered sugar, fruit, whipped cream, and bacon.
